Decommissioning Plug

A robust solution for safe pipeline access, the Decommissioning Plug allows service teams to securely isolate and lock out unserviceable or unnecessary access points without a shutdown, making it a must-have in every service kit.

Cosasco’s Decommissioning Plug is installed to seal the access fitting near the entrance. When the back pressure is released from the outlet side of the access fitting, the internal pressure (if present) applies a force causing the elastomeric stopper to expand laterally and seal against even severely damaged seating faces or fitting walls. Once the basic seal is verified, the installation equipment is removed and torque applied to the compression bolt, which seals the plug into place. The plug O-ring and Teflon packer offer additional seal support. When back pressure is not present, torque is applied to bolt which will expand and seal the elastomeric stopper.

Features

  • Seals damaged or unused access fittings
  • Facilitates maintenance or replacement of valves or connections

Benefits

  • Made from corrosion resistant alloys, the Decommissioning Plug is designed to withstand high pressure and temperature conditions, ensuring long-lasting service without failure.
  • Once installed, the plug minimizes the need for frequent maintenance on the affected pipeline segment. The plug may be left without attention for 2 to 3 years.*
  • By securely sealing off the access fitting, the plug prevents leaks and enhances operational safety, especially during the decommissioning process.
  • Suitable for use in various pipeline configurations, whether connected by branch tee or flare-welded fittings.

*We recommend the position be capped with an extended cover and monitored periodically.
